General Exhibition

For all grade levels in participating schools.

The General Exhibition is one of Illinois’ premier high school art exhibitions featuring student visual artworks from some of the top city, suburban, public and private high schools. The General Exhibition is a “Best of the Best” competition developed by teachers to recognize high school students for their artistic excellence.

Each year, over 100 high schools register to participate in the General Exhibition at the Zhou B. Art Center located in Chicago's Bridgeport neighborhood. High schools digitally submit up to 25 artworks into 8 categories: Drawing, Painting, Mixed Media, Design, Photography, Pottery, Sculpture, and Time Arts for consideration via SlideRoom, an online visual slide review platform.

  • Your high school must complete the registration process to participate in the IHSAE.
  • Students do not register individually for the General Exhibition.
  • Each registered high school can submit up to 25 student works.
  • Artwork selections are conducted by teachers and submitted to the IHSAE for curation.
  • Only 5-6 artworks are selected from the 25 submitted artworks to represent their school in a specific category at the exhibition.

Students Must Attend The Awards Ceremony to Receive Full Awards Packages
All students are welcome to attend the IHSAE.
