2018 GEneral exhibition judges
Lisa DeLuca attended Western Illinois University and got her BA in Communications. She has worked in the educational recruiting field since 1995 being employed at institutions such as Robert Morris College, National-Louis University, and now the American Academy of Art since 1999. Lisa has volunteered as an on-site mentor at Gallery 37 and as a docent at the Museum of Contemporary Art. She currently teaches art history to students who are a part of the Penedo Charitable Organization.
James Wetzel is a Chicago based artist and musician. He received his Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. His artwork combines technology, craft, and sound and deals mainly with electro-acoustic sculpture and percussive analog modular synthesis. His musical output takes shape mostly in the form of solo drum/synth performance.
Michael Galbincea is a visual design interactive media specialist and educator for the past 15 years. He is the Digital Art and Communications Chair at Tribeca Flashpoint College and Adjunct Professor at DePaul University in Digital Design. He specializes in as many aspects of design, always looking to merge experiences as an educator and art director to help create the education methods for the designers of the future. Michael has a BA in Communications from Cleveland State University and a MFA in Film, Video, and New Media from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Joan Mills is an art educator, artist, and advocate for the arts. Joan is the current past president of the Illinois Art Education Association. She holds a BS in Art Education, an MS in Curriculum and Instruction and National Board Certification in EMC art. In 2009 Joan was recognized as the IAEA elementary art Teacher of the year. Joan has exhibited her work in Naperville area galleries and has served as a juror for regional and statewide student shows.
Leo Perez was born in raised in the Pilsen neighborhood in Chicago. Leo's art is very much influenced by graffiti art and comic books, his art is of different mediums such as acrylic, watercolor, ink and digital. Leo Perez is a graduate of Illinois Institute of Art and a product of Gallery 37. Perez currently teaches after school art for ACES at Evergreen Middle School in Brighton Park in Chicago.
Sandie Bacon is a classically trained, versatile artist who resides in the Chicago area. She has been working as a Golden Paint working artist since 2006, and generously shares her enthusiasm and knowledge in her lecture/demos and workshops. She has a BA in fine arts/literature from University of Redlands( Ca,) and an MFA from Maryland Institute Graduate School of painting.
Erik Lundquist is an Illustrator, mark-maker, & skateboarder currently producing and exhibiting artwork in Chicago,Il. He received his BFA in Illustration from Columbia College Chicago.
Dr. Anne Becker has a BS in Art Education, a MA with a Sculpture Emphasis from Northern Illinois University and a doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from Aurora University. She has had teaching experiences in art education at the elementary, high school and college levels as well as the director of Art Education at Columbia College Chicago.
